Canvas includes a set of default notification preferences you can receive for your courses. However, you can change the default settings by setting your own notification preferences. These preferences only apply to you. They are not used to control how course updates are sent to other users.
To change notifications preference, click on Account on the global navigation menu. Then click Notifications button on the extended menu.
For each activity showing on the Course Activities, under each Way to Contact, which is usually an email address, click on the icon showing the current notification status and it will open a drop down menu with 4 options as below. Choose the setting that works for you for that activity.
- Notify immediately
- Daily summary
- Weekly summary
- Notifications off
If you change a setting, the change is made immediately to your account. Please note that push notifications delivered to mobile devices have separate settings from email notifications and may not always be available. While notifications are a great way to stay on top of your courses, you should always periodically check your courses to ensure you are not missing important announcements, assignment feedback, or class information.
You may be able to reply directly to email notifications outside of Canvas. Replies are updated in the Canvas Inbox. However, please be aware that attachments added as part of an external reply (for example, files attached to an email response and sent from an email client like Gmail) are not included with the message shown in Canvas.
